Our current project is "Happy Birthday Hetty" a new play by writer Lori Hilson. Happy Birthday Hetty focuses on the life of an East End woman Hetty. On the eve of her 100th birthday, Hetty is excitedely looking forward to the next day's celebrations and her telegram from the Queen when she has an unexpected visitor......
Happy Birthday Hetty has now completed its tour of villages and small towns in Devon and enjoyed positive responses from audiences and has earned very favourable reviews in local newspapers. See our next page for a detailed account of the tour.
Lori Hilson has been writing short plays and monologues in Exeter and Bristol for several years.....
Moving from Bristol to Exeter in 2000 she undertook various volunteering positions while working to become a teacher. Two of her monologues were performed in Exeter when Sheila Hannon, from Bristol's Show of Stregnth, teamed up with Exeter Northcott Theatre to produce "Trading Local" in an Exeter shopping area (Don't know about Nothing) and "Gripping Yarns" at the Royal Albert Museum 'RAMM' (New Beginnings)
Happy Birthday Hettly written in 2010 has been recently revised following a female-focussed play-writing course led by Natalie McGrath. Shortly afterwards Lori beame a runner up
with her short play Smile in the Sterts Playwriting Competition in Cornwall in 2014.
Our first production MOTHERLAND by writer Suze Gardner
toured to appreciative audiences in villages and towns around Exeter during the spring of 2014 and thereafter at the Ingnite Festival in Exeter. Further information about the production can be found on the Motherland page on this site.
